Help with keloids?

I have a small keloid on my nose piercing. They keep reoccuring, so I have just decided to take the nose ring out, as I don't want a huge keloid there on the center of my face for the rest of my life (please save the preaching, I know it was a risk when I got it pierced in the first place) Anyways I have a couple questions...besides tea tree oil and crushed aspirin, is there anything I should be using? Also, how long on average do they take to go away. I'm hoping in a month it will be completely gone, with a little scar (but hopefully no bump). Is this realisitc? Lastly, I want to get it pierced again in a few months because I really like the way it looks. Do I need to get it pierced on the other side, or will it be okay to get it done on the same side again? Is it likely that I will get another keloid, even if it's on the other side?

Help with keloids?
It may not be a keloid if it comes and goes. That sounds like its inflamed hypertrophic scar issue. Often, changing the jewelry or playing with the area will make it swell up and it will go down once the irritation relaxes. Also use a warm compress here and there to soften the tissue and reduce added swelling and redness in the area.

Taking the piercing out will help the bump go away (if its hypertrophic) but re-piercing it in the same spot can cause the problem to occur again. If its a keloid you will need to have it surgically removed since they don't go away on their own. Its not likely that it will happen again on the other side, often keloids are random (people report getting them on one ear but not the other) and if it was hypertrophic scarring then it shouldn't happen unless trauma or premature irritation is caused to the area.

Reply:Well I don't know about getting rid of keloids. I've only heard of surgery working. As for you piercing it again, that wouldn't be too intelligent. Yes, you're going to most liekly get another one where ever the hell you pierce it. You have keloid skin and that means you're gonna get em forever and ever.
Reply:eeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwww!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I almst got 1 on my ear, a decent place to pierce
Reply:In my experience, they don't go away.

Except by surgery.

I took my earring out as soon as I felt it growing, and it's still there to this day. My husband also has two in his ear he's had since he got them pierced years ago.

Go talk to your doctor, he may be able to prevent them from becoming permanent. But once it's healed up, you'd have to hit the table to get it out. Just a nasty fact of piercing danger.

P.S. No, you will not definitely get keloids whereever you pierce. My hubby also had an eyebrow piercing that was fine, and all my other piercings (5) are fine. However, if you try piercing again in the same area, it's likely you will develop another.

I have my piercing back in, and it remained healthy, but that's pretty unusual. Try it at your own risk.
Reply:If you develop keloids with an area that small you are prone to developing scar tissue internally and externally as well. If you go to a dermatologist they can inject a small amount of cortisone into the scar which will help shrink it. If you do the other side you will have the very same problem. Now why would you want to do this to yourself knowing what you know now?
