I was wondering if there is a genetic reason in the tissue that cause this type of scar (keloids)?

because i know of a few people who have this scar; (only difference is the length, it's shorter) and they have not had any surgery, this scar just appeared at a certain stage in

their lives. Any ideas?

I was wondering if there is a genetic reason in the tissue that cause this type of scar (keloids)?
Keloids can be considered to be "scars that don't know when to stop." A keloid, sometimes referred to as a keloid scar, is a tough heaped-up scar that rises quite abruptly above the rest of the skin. It is irregularly shaped and tends to enlarge progressively. Unlike scars, keloids do not subside over time.

What is the difference between a keloid and a hypertrophic scar?

After the skin is injured, the healing process usually leaves a flat scar. Sometimes the scar is hypertrophic, or thickened, but confined to the margin of the wound. Hypertrophic scars often subside by themselves (a process which can take one year or more). Treatment such as injections of cortisone (steroids) can speed this process.

Keloids, by contrast, may start some time after the injury and extend beyond the wound site. This tendency to migrate into surrounding areas that weren't injured to begin with distinguishes keloids from hypertrophic scars. Keloids typically appear following surgery or injury, but they can also appear spontaneously or as a result of some slight inflammation, such as an acne pimple on the chest (even one that wasn't scratched). Other minor injuries that can trigger keloids are burns and piercings.
Reply:I would think that a greater number of africans are affected than the caucians due to their skin type...keloids scars do not occur after surgery alone/or a nasty cut. It can just appear if you are acne prune in certain areas of the skin , especially the stomach.

It can appear as a small boil, then gradually develop into a ugly. unsightly scar that raises up and can grow for a while, so to me I would think it have alot to do with your genetics.
Reply:Just an overgrowth of scar tissue. I can be remedied by laser treatments .It's no big deal.

I am planning on gauging my ears to a 10 ga but i really am afraid of getting keloids, how do i avoid them ?!?

i need help, oh and if i decide to let them grow in will they completely go away ?

I am planning on gauging my ears to a 10 ga but i really am afraid of getting keloids, how do i avoid them ?!?
Gauge slowly, step up in sizes of plugs slowly to let your ears stretch. There is obviously no way to 100% avoid keloids but they most commonly happen to those who rush the gauging process.
Reply:I agree with adam85719; gauge slowly and you should be fine. Enjoy the gauge that you're at, buy some beautiful jewelry in the size you are or just below to prevent you from doing it too fast

Are you sure they are keloids, or are they just bumps?

Not every little bump is a keloid.

Will leave a link on both, with info on them and how to possibly get rid of them.

I had my 2nd earring piereced almost a year ago & now I am keloids. What's the best way to get rid of them?

I have no insurance and I need the cheapest or the most convenient D-I-Y [do it yourself] way to get rid of them.

I had my 2nd earring piereced almost a year ago %26amp; now I am keloids. What's the best way to get rid of them?
What is your race...that is a good thing to know. Those from the Mediterranean countries and those from the black race seem to get these more often. Keloids are an aggressive form of scar formation when the body gets 'injured' (pierced, in your case). Removing them causes more scar tissue, thus bigger keloids. You may go from a pea sized to a cabbage sized. (Not likely, but you get the picture).

Remover them yourself? I hope that you do not entertain that thought becuase of the trouble that you may get yourself into...I am sorry to say, but you need a plastics guy to get you the most cosmetic appealing removal, and they will tell you that there is no guarantee.

No more piercings for you. You will only propigate more keloids.
Reply:the best way is to have a Dr cut them off..

but since you are asking for a do it yourself method... i wouldn't recommend anything.
Reply:How big is the keloids? Are you a guy? Well keloids are hereditary (especially in people of african descent) and can recur again if attempt is made to cut them off. It is an abnormal wound healing process that causes excess scar tissue formation. Most people want surgical intervention for cosmetic reasons. There is hardly a D-I-Y for this without having some kind of precription medication. There is a steriod injection (triamcinalone) which you may not get over the counter. You may consider waiting until you can afford it. It doesn't cost much. If you are able to get it, you ask a doctor friend to inject the site. Nothing major. Is it getting bigger by the day? Are you causing more injury to the site by putting on tight-fitting earings?
Reply:Keloids are nothing to play with, and you should NEVER try to correct this problem by yourself. You are going to need to see a doctor. You cannot remove a keloid yourself. Doing so, will only tramatize the scar and can lead to the scar increasing in size. Also, you cannot leave the keloid just there. You need intervention or it will continue to grow. Doctors, in order to treat keloids, will remove the keloid but also inject your ear with steroids to prevent a reoccurrence. Again, see a doctor. They may allow you to pay in installments. It is worth it. Again, do not try to fix this yourself, you will only complicate the matter and cause more injury to your ear. Dr. SCD

Consult a dermatologist or plastic surgeon. Talk to him about intralesional steroid injections as well as other options.

What is the best way to get rid of and prevent Keloids?

I am of Asian and Caucasian decent and in the past three years have gotten about 4 colloids. Two of them are on my back in a very visible place and are growing constantly (about 23mm now). What are my options for removal; I don't mind scarring much but these ugly bumps have to go!

What is the best way to get rid of and prevent Keloids?
Unfortunately there is not much that you can do to prevent them. Some people have them because they have keloid bodies whenever they receive scars. Some doctors are able to remove them by burning them off and that procedure can be done in their office in one day. But you have to be careful with that also because you have a keloid body chances are that they could come back. But speak with a dermatologists. Best of luck.

No... and you should def get it pierced it is fun to have for years, just stay away from metal balls because it WILL chip your teeth or wear away your gum tissue behind your bottom front teeth.

Is there any treatment for age-old scars/marks? specifically keloids.?

Coco butter for old scars..

I got my nose pierced a few months ago. Now keloids keep coming!?

The first time, it went away when I changed soaps. The second time, H2Ocean spray helped. Now it's back!! I think it's because of the heat/humidity, because I don't have air conditioning.

Is there anything I can do???

I got my nose pierced a few months ago. Now keloids keep coming!?
Some of the treatments that are currently available are described below. These treatments have varying degrees of effectiveness. Usually, any interference to a keloid can lead to it recurring and becoming bigger than it previously was.

* Surgery — Surgery requires great care during and after the operation. Keloids that return after being excised may be larger than the original. There is a 50% chance of recurrence after surgical removal. However, keloids are less likely to return if surgical removal is combined with other treatments. Surgical or laser excision may be followed by intralesional injections of a corticosteroid. Plastic closure of the skin including techniques such as v-plasty or w-plasty to reduce skin tension are known to reduce recurrence of keloids following excision.

* Dressings — Moistened wound coverings made of silicone gel (such as Dermatix) or silastic have been shown in studies to reduce keloid prominence over time. This treatment is safe and painless, although some patients may experience increased itchiness from wearing the dressing for an extended period of time.

* Steroid injections — Steroid injections are best used as the scar begins to thicken or if the person is a known keloid former. A series of injections with triamcinolone acetonide or another corticosteroid may reduce keloid size and irritation. However, injections are often uncomfortable and in large and/or hard scars can be difficult to perform, requiring local anesthetic for people over 16, and full anesthetic for people under. The treatment area can become very painful as the anesthetic wears off.

* Compression — Compression bandages applied to the site over several months, sometimes for as long as six to twelve months, may lead to a reduction in the size of the keloid. This is the best treatment for preventing new scars.

* Cryosurgery — Cryosurgery is an excellent treatment for keloids which are small and occur on lightly pigmented skin. It is often combined with monthly cortisone injections. The use of cryotherapy is limited since it causes skin blanching. It freezes the skin and causes sludging of the circulation beneath, effectively creating an area of localized frostbite. There is a slough of skin and keloid with re-epithelization.

* Radiation therapy — Electron beam radiation can be used at levels which do not penetrate the body deeply enough to affect internal organs. Orthovoltage radiation is more penetrating and slightly more effective. Radiation treatments reduce scar formation if they are used soon after a surgery while the surgical wound is healing. This is one of the more effective procedures(Ogawa R et al).

* Laser therapy — This is an alternative to conventional surgery for keloid removal. Lasers produce a superficial peel but often do not reduce the bulk of the keloid. The use of dye-tuned lasers has not shown better results than that of cold lasers.

* Newer treatments — Drugs that are used to treat autoimmune diseases or cancer have shown promise. These include alpha-interferon, 5-fluorouracil and bleomycin. However, there is a need for further study and evaluation of this treatment technique.

* Natural treatments (in case of piercings) - Take a warm rag and hold it up against the keloid for about 5 minutes. This can also be done with a warm tea bag. Tea tree oil is also effective but is not recommended as it can allow bacteria to stick to it.

Reply:Best advice, take it out. I had my ear cartilage pierced and i got a keyloid and it would not go away. So i took it out. A few years later did it again on the other ear and it happend again.
Reply:Well, the keloids can't be that big, right? Even if it is, this should peobably work:

Everytime you get out of the shower, when your skin is still moist, rub the scar, also use your H2Ocean stuff and whatever was helping before. This will massage the scar tissue so that it starts to wear down, but if it hurts, don't do it (duh) just go along with whatever was working before, just double it.

What is the best home treatment for itching & redness of keloids?

It depends on the scar. If it is not an old scar, you can try using one of the occlusive dressings. They are marketed as "scar reducing" patches and are put on and left on for 24-72 hours. If the scar is really red, it could be infected. In that instance, you would need to see your doctor for medication. If the scar is an old one, try hydrocortisone cream (available at Walmart, etc).

I got my industrial pierced and now have keloids on 3 of the 4 holes. =(Is there anyways to make them go away?
hypertrophic scarring (more likely to be this than keloids) is caused in industrials by pressure on one side of the hole - it's likely they haven't been pierced 100% in line. so if you want to keep the industrial, the lumps stay... they should subside if you remove the bar, then you can either leave everything out or replace the piercings with standard single piercings, not an industrial

Does anybody have any home remedies for removing keloids?
There are some (silicone?) patches that you can buy from the chemist, they go onto scars and can help smooth them but it takes a long time and the results may not be too good. You have to stick them on and leave them for several weeks (they can be washed)

Are you sure its keloid? There is a similar scaring called hypotrophic which may be improved surgically.

From Wikipedia:

Two types of scars are the result of the body overproducing collagen, which causes the scar to be raised above the surrounding skin. Hypertrophic scars take the form of a red raised lump on the skin, but do not grow beyond the boundaries of the original wound, and they often improve in appearance after a few years. Keloid scars are a more serious form of scarring, because they can carry on growing indefinitely into a large, tumorous (although benign) growth.

Both hypertrophic and keloid scars are more common on younger and darker skinned people. They can occur on anyone, but some people have a genetic susceptibility to these types of scarring. They can be caused by surgery, an accident, or sometimes by acne. In some people, keloid scars form spontaneously.

There are several suggestions for improving:

To get rid of keloids, take massive doses of protein enzymes between meals until they are gone.

The keloids are rich in fibrin, an inflammatory protein. Protein enzymes digest fibrin and the scarring that they cause without attacking normal tissue.

Good luck and be well.

Reply:Vitamin E oil and MSM cream may help too. Also, Vitamin E 400-800 IU daily with meals. Good luck!
Reply:Keloids are caused by a build up of scar tissue (or protien) in the skin, like a kind of scab, as the body's natural defence against something. As a result, they're very difficult to get rid of externally (by putting something on it), because your body will still have the irritation that caused it in the first place. It's especially commonly due to pressure, like from jewlery in a piercing. The BEST and possibly cheapest/easiest way to get rid of them is to get rid of whatever is causing it. If you aren't sure, maybe chat up your family doc.

There are a lot of things that supposedly work to get rid of keloids... but none of them worked for me. Even gobbing on loads of very concentrated Vitamin E. I finally got rid of it by relieving the pressure on the piercing... by using a smaller guage bar and then eventually putting the bigger one back in. It only took a week or two to go away once I did that... (after months of people telling me to put all these creams and stuff on it... and it even getting worse from some.)
Reply:Unfortunately, keloids are more prone to develop in people of African-American or Mediterranean descent. The best thing is to NOT shave in the opposite direction, do NOT pull any ingrown hairs, try to use a gentle cleanser that will not irritate the skin, don't pick at any bumps ( sometimes, easier said than done). I hope that this helps some.

Why is Black skin more prone to keloids?

Is it safe for a Black person to have plastic surgery?

Why is Black skin more prone to keloids?
Hello,

I am a black woman and very prone to keloids. I think that certain ethnic groups are more prone than others: Blacks, Hispanics and other groups with darker skin tone seem to be more susceptible than others. I personally treat every new cut or scar immediately with antibiotic ointments and when the wound heals, I use a cortisone ointment (prescribed by my doctor). It seems to help prevent the extra scar tissue from forming. After that I use a prescribed skin bleaching cream on the area to fade the dark pigmentation of the healed scar. That being said, I am sure it is safe for a black person to have plastic surgery (my sister had a breast reduction), but if that person is prone to keloids my advice would be to consult a plastic surgeon; he can best assess if the surgery needed could possibly create disgraceful keloids. I hope this helps.

Does anyone know of any prevention for keloids? how do I find the right specialist or dermatologist?

I would like to have my ears pierced again but without the worry that I might have some unwanted scar tissue along with it.

Does anyone know of any prevention for keloids? how do I find the right specialist or dermatologist?
Keliods and hyoertropic scarring is a scar combination build up of both skin cells and connective tissue that build up and scab over the wound. these are known as fibroblasts. With keloid scarring, the fibroblasts keep growing, hence you get red, raised, often tender scarring. This is due to an over abundance of collagen in th scar itself.

There may even be a genetic connection. This is common especially in dark toned people, and dark haired people, but can happen to anyone.

The prevention of keloids can be as simple as don't gain the scar, but that isn't what your after. Treatments for keloids range from laser surgugical removal, compression bandaging, steroidal use, and silicone patches that could be cut into little circles with a pierced middle to where with your earrings. Some suggest that treatments such as vitamin and herbal immune sustaining suppliments such as vitamin E, evening primrose oil caps, a good b-complex and of course, vitamin C. Hydrating yourself with water and juice will also promote healthy tissue. Massage to bring about good blood flow is also an option.

There is a new topical homeopathic ointment called ELICINA® is a unique skin regenerating substance proven effective for the treatment of all types of scars. It stops itching, softens and helps to remove keloid scars and reduce pitted or ice pick scars. It also prevents scarring and acts as a natural remedy for acne.

Elicina is not a man made drug, pharmaceutical or medicine. It is gathered from the secretions left on his paths by the Chilean snail Helix Aspersa Müller. The very same he uses to quickly regenerate his own shell and skin when damaged. After years of proven effects, scientific validation and the invention of a patented process to make it into a topical cream, now presented as a natural remedy for acne and scars.

The secret of Elicina® lies in it's seven natural bio-available ingredients. They are: Natural Antibiotics, Glycolic Acid. Allantoin and Peptides (amino-acid chains that are parts of proteins and trigger skin cell reproduction and replacement of damaged cells), Collagen, Elastin, and Vitamins. All in a natural form, and combined in one unique and balanced substance by nature's wisdom itself.

Reply:There is no sure way to prevent keloids. Keloids are scar tissue that keeps grow past the healing of a wound. Keloids are mostly found in minorities. They can be remove by a specialist but doesn't guarantee that they won't regrow.
Reply:I had a keloid process on my ear years ago and had to have it removed. Forego the earrings...it is a genetic thing and you can't avoid them if you are predisposed to them. I had multiple piercings in my ears (I am a girl) and the doctors told me that although the lump was benign this time, it might not be so next time. It's not worth the risk - there is other ways of enhancing your looks than earrings.

Reply:Sea salt soak = dissolve 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt to 1 cup (8 oz.) of water. Only non-iodized sea salt should be used. Should be rinsed over and inside any piercing or applied with a saturated cotton ball or swab. Mixing this solution too strong can burn the skin, only 1/4 teaspoon should be used. Can be done 2-4 times a day. Test for sensitivity by making a mixture and swabbing a little of it on your skin near but not on the piercing, wait at least an hour and if no symptoms occur its probably good.

What are the best ways to remove keloids?

You may wanna consider silicon gel like Cica care. It helps to flatten the keloid as well as lighten it. It takes time though...you will need to use it for about 2-3 weeks before you start seeing results. Treatment may need to be continued for 2-3 months depending on the size of the scar. It works better when used early. So far I've received some good feedbacks from my patients. You can get it from the pharmacy.

Am i at risk of developing keloids ?
If her "swellings" were keloid, then the answer is Yes. You have a high risk of them yourself. Keloids are nothing more than excessive scar tissue. They are hereditary, predominantly in black people whose ancestery is from Africa. Best of luck!
Reply:to answer your question, you need to answer another: have you been injured before where a scar has formed? while having a family member who has had keloids does put you at greater risk, how you heal after injury is the best prognosticator. another risk factor is dark skin tones.

I have a Keloid on my Ear also from my ear rings. I put this medicine like stuff on my ear. It's called, "New Skin Scar Therapy" its a Topical Gel. It's also the liquid that they inject inside your ear to make the keloid go down. The gel is sold at CVS Pharmacy. It cost about $11.00. It's pretty expensive but it works. You have to put it one twice a day. Once in the Morning Once at night. Trust me, It's a miracle. I've been using it and my keloid is already going down.

this is a specialty of a plastic surgeon. Call for an appointment and be sure he or she is board certified in cosmetic surgery.

Reply:Keloids are an overgrowth of the connective

tissue involving the wound area, as well as the

normal peripheral skin outside the wound area (they

are larger than the initial wound boundary). They are

grossly elevated and may be itchy, hard, and hypersensitive.

They can develop for up to a year after injury and

persist indefinitely. There tends to be a genetic predisposition

keloids is difficult and frequently unsatisfactory.

Some of the treatment that are currently available are described below. These treatments have varying degrees of effectiveness. Usually, any inteference to a keloid can lead to it recurring and becoming bigger than it previously was.

* Surgery — Surgery requires great care during and after the operation. Keloids that return after being excised may be larger than the original. There is a 45% chance of recurrence after surgical removal.

This treatment is safe and painless.

* Steroid injections — Steroid injections are best used as the scar begins to thicken or if the person is a known keloid former. A series of injections with triamcinolone acetonide or another corticosteroid may reduce keloid size and irritation. However injections are often uncomfortable and in large and/or hard scars can be difficult to inject requiring local anesthetic for people over 16, and full anesthetic for people under. The treatment area can become very painful as the anesthetic wears off.

* Compression — Compression bandages applied to the site over several months, sometimes for as long as six to twelve months, may lead to a reduction in the size of the keloid. This is the best treatment at preventing new scars.

There is a slough of skin and keloid with re-epithelization .

* Radiation therapy — Electron beam radiation can be used at levels which do not penetrate the body deeply enough to affect internal organs. Orthovoltage radiation is more penetrating and slightly more effective. Radiation treatments may reduce scar formation if they are used soon after a surgery while the surgical wound is healing. This is one of the more costly procedures.

* Laser therapy — This is an alternative to conventional surgery for keloid removal. Lasers produce a superficial peel but often do not reduce the bulk of the keloid. The use of dye-tuned lasers has not shown better results than cold lasers.

* Newer treatments — Drugs which are used to treat autoimmune diseases or cancer have shown promise. These include alpha-interferon, 5-fluorouracil and bleomycin. However, there is a need for further study and evaluation of this treatment technique.

* Natural treatments (in case of piercings)- Take a warm rag and hold it up against the keloid for about 5 minutes. This can also be done with a warm tea bag. Tea tree oil is also effective but is not recommended because it is an oil and oil can allow bacteria to stick to it.

What is best treatment available for keloids?
ask your dr to inject you with kenolog-10, this is the best way to treat it
Reply:Keloids are an overgrowth of scar tissue at the site of a healed skin injury. Keloids often require no treatment. Keloids may be reduced in size by freezing (cryotherapy), external pressure, corticosteroid injections, laser treatments, radiation, or surgical removal. It is not unusual for keloids to reappear (sometimes larger than before) after they have been removed.

Discoloration from sun exposure can be prevented by covering the forming keloid with a patch or Band-Aid, and by using sunblockers when spending time in the sun. These extras protection measures should be continued for at least 6 months after injury or surgery for an adult, up to 18 months for a child.

Is there a cure /remedy for keloids scar?

Is there a cure /remedy for keloids scar?
The brand I find most effective is Cica care. Its a silicone plaster that you wear over the scar for about 12 hrs a day. It will help to flatten it and reduce the redness (colouration). But it takes about 1-2 months before you can see much results. How fast the appearance improves also depends on the age of the keloid. If its less than a year you will see much better results. Hope that helps?
Reply:Depending upon the size I would say a plastic surgeon.
Reply:pressure bandage or local hydrocortisone inj
Reply:The only way to remove keloid scars is surgically by a plastic surgeon. You can have them injected with Kenalog but that is not a permanant solution.
Reply:yes, dermatologists do it every day. They use liquid oxygen, they keep it in thermos; they dip a stick into it, covered with cotton, and then gently move it on top of your scar. The skin peels, and there is no scar but a white spot. If it is very prominent, you will have to do it a couple of times. It does not hurt a bit, just give you a cold feeling on the spot they treat, and it's not expensive. I had two done this way.
Reply:My daughter had a large 6 inch keloid on her leg from a surgery that she had when she was a baby. She grew very self-consious about it when she became older and tried many home remedies and none worked. I took her to a plastic surgeon who surgically removed the Keloid and then put her leg in a cast to prevent her from being able to move her leg which would have made another Keloid form. This worked for her and we are very pleased with the results. Our insurance covered most of it too. Best wishes.

Other options for removing keloid scars are corticosteroid injections, laser surgery, cryosurgery, etc. They all are invasive methods for improving skin blemishes. Let's have a quick review so you can make an informed choice:

- Steroids injections treatment work by intensifying the activity of the collagen enzyme, which is the later responsible of breaking down collagen so that scars would slowly diminish its appearance.

- Silicone gel application is a process whereby a clear sheet of gel is applied to the injured area, wrap in cloth and fastened with bandage for at least twelve hours a day. With constant use, a flatter, much smoother keloid may result in a period of time that goes from two to twelve months. This process is usually repeated every two years.

- Mineral oil gel sheets are alternative to silicone gel application. This oil slowly melts into the skin thus giving the scar protection and moisture. This procedure is not recommended for open wounds.

- Laser methods may improve skin condition, but you have to know that they are very aggressive procedures. It is usually performed in combination of dermbrasion, or surgical excision.

- Dermbrasion is a type of process that includes the removing of the top layer of a scar with a high speed instrument, like a handheld laser or abrading tool. The scar will not completely disappear, but it will be less noticeable. This procedure must be performed by a plastic surgeon or qualify person.

- Z-plasty includes the repositioning of the scar so it lines up to the natural tissue healing of skin. As it is a surgery procedure, the old scar is removed and then incisions are made to create a flap in triangular shape. These flaps are then used to cover the wound in a "Z" pattern. And finally, with really fine stitches, the wound is closed.

How can I get rid of keloids after the burn?

A keloid scar will never disappear completely. The wound was to deep into the skin. It has damaged the lower layer of skin that produces the new skin cells. There are ways to make the scar smaller, lighter in color and not as noticeable though. Vitamin E taken orally with help the skin elasticity, vitamin E oil rubbed onto the keloid scar will help diminish the red or dark color of the scar. Coco butter lotion has been known to do the same thing. Also if you massage the scar with your fingers this helps brake up the hard outer and inner skin layers. Making the scar loser, less tight, this makes the scar not as thick so it doesn't stand up as much. Meaning it is flatter not as puffy looking.

The best thing you should do is try to keep out of the sun. The sun makes it pull and that where the growth comes from. Report It

What are some ways to remove keloids while ears peirce?
Keloid scarring can be treated in several ways:

A dermatologist can do intralesional injections (injections into the scar) to help flatten them. They may appear redder than before, though.

Silicone gel sheets can sometimes help. They are also used to help lighten other types of scars.

Cryotherapy (freezing with liquid nitrogen) can also flatten the keloid.

Laser therapy will flatten a keloid and also lighten the color if needed.

Surgery to remove keliods is risky because it can trigger more scar formation.

I would talk with a dermatologist about your options.

Can u get tissue scars like keloids from tattoos?

yes. Afircan american and asian skin is prone to scarring and keloids far more than any other type. If you have had a piercing or two that has done this is it very possible that a tattoo could do it. And its not the artists fault. They can only try and dissuade you from the attempt if you decide to get a tattoo after you notice that.

If you are succeptible to keloids and get a tattoo it will end up looking like a bad burn scar. ie pink and raised without the tattoo being visible. sorry.

Can u get tissue scars like keloids from tattoos?
Scarring is pretty common, but keloids or similar masses is a rather unlikely outcome. Modern methods and a skilled operator can minimize the scarring; on the other hand, some people have more sensitive skin than others. A dermatologist could probably give you better information, especially for your particular case.
Reply:Yeah you can. You know black people seem to be prone to getting keloids. I understand that if a tattoo artist presses too hard while he's inking you it could really irritate the skin more than it should and result in a keloid. You have to be careful if you're dark because they may be tempted to apply more pressure.
Reply:You are probably prone to getting keloids if other members in your family may have them. Anything is possible, but always check with your doctor and not just the tattoo artist.
Reply:ITS N0T LIKELY BUT ITS P0SSIBLE THAT WHY ITS IMP0RTANT T0 TAKE CARE 0F A NEW TATT00 PR0PERLY!
Reply:you absolutely can. if you get keloids ever then it is a good idea to talk to your tattoo artist about it. i think it may depend on how severe they are. you may not be able to get tattooed.
Reply:yes it is possible. I saw a guy with a tattoo with keloids and it kinda looked cool because somekind of way the scarring was raised but pretty even so it made his tat look like dimensional. but some people that keloid can have tats no problem
Reply:u probably can yea i guess so

How do u get rid of keloids ?

I just went though a new procedure to remove a keloid on my chest (which I had and hated for 7 years).

THe process is relatively new and has to be done by a plastic surgeon. They remove the keloid sugically. To prevent the high percent chance of it coming back, the put in synthetic skin called "Integra" and then over that do a skin graft (in my case from my leg).

Since the chest is a particularly active area, they will have you wear a medipack(vacum device) for 7-10 days until everything takes.

Overall I'm glad I did it although it wasn't without some real discomfort.

It will take months before my chest skin graft is faded.

Talk to some plastic surgeons.

(by the way mine was covered by insurance :))

How do you get rid of keloids?

If you have the type of skin that keloids, your doctor can remove the scar and then when the scar is new, inject it with steroids so it won't keloid. This method works about 99% of the time, so the risk of it failing is pretty low.

How do you get rid of keloids?
A dermatologist can remove them but they will return. Skin tags or similar to warts and once you have them you are likely to have them again.

I have keloid skin. I had a big one on my ear. I went to UIC medical center and they just cut it off. I had to get steroid injections first. The injections stopped it from growing. That was about 9 years ago and it hasn't returned. :)

Conservative:

1.By giving intrakeloidal injection of steroids.-Best

2.By giving intrakeloidal injection of Vitamin A- better result

Whats the best way to remove keloids from the skin?
Plastic surgery. I have a huge one on my throat from multiple surgeries from cancer, and it won't go away unless I have plastic surgery. They do sell creams for them, I don't know how well they work. Best advice, ask your Dr.
Reply:steroid injection twice a month, then surgical removal, but it might just get it worst.

Do certain kinds of injuries cause keloids?

Yes ANY puncture of the skin even if slight like piercings or bad abrasions and any type of surgery, dental work could result in keloid scarring. The fact is that there is little you can do if you have the sort of skin that reacts by forming keloid scarring. Except, If you know you are susceptible or have family that is you should avoid any activity which can result in skin puncture wounds. People who have developed keloids SHOULD NOT HAVE PIERCING OR TATTOOS and make sure you tell your doctor if you are going to have any kind of surgery. Could have severe complications and compound the risks. Also, if you do a search on ANSWERS and a Google search - you will find many questions and answers on keloids. Some relate how they suffered keloids from other than piercings and surgery.

Do certain kinds of injuries cause keloids?
This is an inherited tendency and even a small wound can cause a keloid such as ear piercing.
