My elder sister had her ears pierced and she developed swellings, that returned even after surgery, i want to pierce my ears and i fear getting the same problem, is it likely to happen to me ?
Am i at risk of developing keloids ?
If her "swellings" were keloid, then the answer is Yes. You have a high risk of them yourself. Keloids are nothing more than excessive scar tissue. They are hereditary, predominantly in black people whose ancestery is from Africa. Best of luck!
Reply:to answer your question, you need to answer another: have you been injured before where a scar has formed? while having a family member who has had keloids does put you at greater risk, how you heal after injury is the best prognosticator. another risk factor is dark skin tones.
